The emergency-stop with magnetic switch is a safety feature that is used especially with reverse belt rotation (downhill). The athlete or patient is connected to the magnetic switch at the user terminal via a rip cord at  the waist belt. 

In case of an emergency the magnet gets ripped off from the user terminal and the running machine stops immediately.

  The rip cord with the magnetic switch does not prevent from falling!

The better fall prevention system is the safety arch with chest belt and harness or the airwalk unweighting system or the arm support.

The emergency-stop with magnetic switch can be replaced by a safer solution like safety arch with chest belt and harness.
